Stoke City’s new shirts are inspired by tradition and history
Stoke City FC, the historical English football club that currently plays in the Sky Bet Championship, and Macron, technical sponsor to the “Potters”, have presented the team’s new kit for the 2022-2023 season. The new shirt for the coming season is inspired by tradition and homages to the past but features stylistic innovation and striking graphics.ù
The “Home” shirt is a crew neck garment with slender red and black stripes that appear even on the sleeve cuffs. Though highly original, the design is inspired by the Potters’ past shirts. The new shirt is characterised by traditional vertical red and white stripes, with the red ones having a special texture achieved by fine diagonal, dye-sub printed lines. The club’s colours and badge appear inside the back of the neck. The Macron Hero logo is embroidered in black on the right breast while the club’s badge appears over the heart, again in black. The club has not had black details on its shirts since 2006. The words “STOKE CITY” are written in red behind the neck. The shorts are white with red drawstrings while the socks are white with a black cuff featuring two horizontal red and white stripes.
The “Away” kit has a retro look derived from one of the club’s most famous historic shirts. The source of inspiration is the shirt worn by the “Potters” during the 1975-76 season. The white shirt has a polo neck, red and black details and a two-button closure. Its red and black stripes extend on to the sleeve cuffs. The front of the shirt is characterised by three stripes – a broad black one in the centre bordered by two two thinner red ones – running diagonally down from the right shoulder. The Macron Hero logo appears in white on the right breast and inside the diagonal black band while the Stoke City badge appears in black over the heart. The coat of arms of Stoke-on-Trent is embossed tone-on-tone on the back, between the shoulders, just under the neck, in homage to the city the Potters represent. The shorts are in black with red drawstrings while the socks are black with a red cuff featuring two black and white stripes.
Finally, the second “Away” is in "total black" with a V neck and red and white details. The front and sleeves feature an embossed pattern of the ‘Fetty Cross’ taken from the City coat of arms with a mesh motif. The Macron Hero logo and Stoke City badge on the breast are both in red. The words “THE POTTERS” are embroidered in black at the back of the neck. This kit is completed by red shorts and red socks with a white cuff containing two thin red and black stripes.
All the team’s new shirts are Slim Fit and made from Softlock fabric with mesh inserts for excellent breathability.
