Words from the national anthem and the flag of Saint David on the Wales mens team jerseys for RWC23

Welsh pride, the words of the national anthem, and the colours of Saint David’s flag are the key features of the new Home and Away jerseys that the Welsh Rugby Union Men’s squad will wear at the Rugby World Cup 2023 in France between the 8^th of September and the 28^th of October.

For the occasion, the Men’s team shall wear the new kits designed and made by Macron, technical partner to the Welsh Rugby Union since 2021. In addition to a strong sense of association with the history and traditions of Wales, the new shirts also deliver a clear message of sustainability. The Welsh Rugby Union’s Home shirt for the Rugby World Cup 2023 is predominantly in the traditional red that has always identified its teams. The shirt has a white polo neck and a white stripe around the bottom of the dark red sleeves. The sides of the shirt are in dark red and the inside neck label has a red background and is customised with the logo of the Welsh Rugby Union, that of Macron, and the words ‘Designed in Bologna’, certifying and highlighting how the garment is conceived, designed, and developed at Macron’s Bologna headquarters.

The Rugby World Cup France 2023 logo, Macron Hero, and WRU emblem are embroidered in white on the chest, from right to left. The defining characteristics of the Welsh ‘Home’ shirt appear under the collar and at the bottom of the sides and back. The phrase ‘PLEIDIOL WYF I’M GWLAD’ (I am faithful to my country), taken from the Welsh national anthem, “Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau”, are embossed at these points. This is a declaration of love for the nation when it’s sung by the supporters in the stands at Principality Stadium.

The RWC23 Away shirt is identified by the colours black and yellow. The body of the shirt is black, but the polo neck and sleeve bottoms are trimmed in yellow. The Rugby World Cup France 2023 and the Macron Hero logos and the Welsh Rugby Union badge on the chest are also embroidered in yellow. The same colours, taken from the flag of Saint David, the patron saint of Wales, also appear in the graphics embossed on the front of the shirt. The motif represents the cross of David, gradually fading towards the outside.
