Macron - New technical partner of the Georgia Basketball Federation
Another basketball federation joins the Macron family. The Georgia Basketball Federation will be sporting the Italian brand’s technical apparel and the debut of this partnership will be at the World Cup. The Georgian national team will be taking part in the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, scheduled from 25 August to 10 September in Indonesia, the Philippines and Japan. The two-year agreement will provide technical apparel to the athletes and staff of the men’s and women’s national teams and the entire youth sector.
The Georgia Basketball Federation, founded in June 1991, has been affiliated with FIBA since the following year. It is the body that oversees and organises the basketball movement in Georgia, as well as the management of all the men’s and women’s national teams. At the end of the month, the men’s national team will make its global debut at a basketball World Cup finals. This is a historic achievement for Georgian basketball, which has been a solid presence at European level for several seasons now. A qualification to the World Cup has been achieved thanks to the contribution of international players, including Thad McFadden, Giorgi Shermadini and Toko Shengelia, the latter with a background in the NBA and who this year wore the jersey of Virtus Segafredo Bologna.
The announcement of the partnership is also an opportunity to unveil the new jerseys that the Georgian national team will wear during the World Cup, in which they will make their debut on Saturday 26 August against Cape Verde at the Okinawa Arena in Japan. Jerseys that through the red and white colours of the Georgian flag represent the identity and history of an entire nation.
“We are delighted to be welcoming the Georgia Basketball Federation into the Macron family, which already includes the Georgian national football and rugby teams,” said Gianluca Pavanello, Macron’s CEO. “Georgian basketball reached a historic milestone this year, with the first participation in its history in the final stages of a World Cup. We are proud to be at their side by providing them with top quality technical garments that pay great attention to environmental sustainability.”
