Macron 4 The Planet: Macron expounds its green philosophy at the “Biodiversity and People” conference
Macron’s historic commitment to sustainability has culminated in the “Macron 4 the Planet” project. This series of activities and best practices involves all departments of the company, from production to distribution, and even influences company welfare, an area in which people-driven initiatives abound. Working at Macron means being part of a team that puts all its passion, professionalism and commitment into achieving shared objectives. This year, the project has gained another important part: beehives have been installed in the green areas around the company in collaboration with Apicolturaurbana.it, one of the leading companies in the field of biodiversity protection in Italy.
Sustainability, respect for the environment, recycling, recovery and biodiversity protection will also be Macron’s themes for the “Biodiversity and People” conference organised by Bee It and Apicoltura Urbana, due to take place in Milan on 13 October (Phyd, via Tortona 31, 9:00-13:30).
Isabella Aldini, Senior Manager for Corporate and Product Communications, will expound to the conference the responsible policies that Macron has adopted over the years, starting from the production of technical sportswear in Eco Fabric, a material made from yarn obtained from 100% recycled polyester and certified by Global Recycled Standard; every shirt made from Eco-Fabric recycles 13 0.5 l plastic bottles. All the game sets Macron supplies to sponsored teams are made from this fabric.
Another step in the same direction is Macron’s membership of the “Better Cotton Initiative”, a leading No Profit organisation that promotes a more sustainable method of cotton farming and better quality natural fibre. More and more articles in the Macron catalogue are now being made with this type of cotton. Macron has also taken a responsible decision to reduce its consumption of packaging materials and to use FSC certified paper and cardboard along with polybags made from 100% recycled polythene. Such daily commitments are supported by an innovative company headquarters built along criteria of sustainability. Energy is obtained from renewable sources; rainwater is collected in large tanks and used for irrigation; and work areas are designed for maximum personal wellbeing.
People are important to Macron and the company runs many welfare and training initiatives for employees. Wellbeing, family and training means things like free use of the company’s 2 gyms (and their latest-generation equipment) and training courses to improve the competence of staff. Then there is a bonus for marriages and births, a welfare contribution (€500/year in goods and services, usable through a dedicated online platform) and a payment for children under the age of 18 to help cover the cost of educational materials like books, computers and digital devices. Insurance is also provided for employees’ immediate families.
Macron’s giving is aimed not only at employees but at people in need too. Macron has supported projects of social solidarity, cultural interest, assistance for persons with disabilities and medical research and prevention for many years through equipment donations, financial contributions and direct sponsorship.
All these actions help build awareness of Macron’s leadership in driving change and helping to safeguard and respect the environment. Gianluca Pavanello, CEO of Macron explains: “We are delighted to work with Apicolturaurbana.it on a project that brings happiness to everybody in the company. ‘Macron 4 the Planet’ means making practical contributions to people’s wellbeing and helping to spread awareness of the need for sustainability through virtuous actions like protecting bees for the benefit of future generations”.
