The winning spirit of Wydad Athletic Club takes the field in the FIFA Club World Cup

2022 drew to an end with an inspiring run by the Moroccan national team, who reached the semi-finals of the World Cup in Qatar. But 2023 looks like being another unmissable season for Moroccan football. Wydad Athletic Club, the most successful club in Morocco and one of the top clubs in African football, will be playing in the FIFA Club World Cup – the world’s most prestigious competitions for clubs.

This will be a historic opportunity for the Casablanca-based club since the Club World Cup, which runs from today until the 11th February, is being played in Morocco, at the Ibn Batouta Stadium, Tangier and the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Rabat. Along with the ‘White and Reds’ the other teams hoping to lift the prestigious trophy are Al Ahly (Egypt), Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia), Auckland City (New Zealand), Flamengo (Brazil), Real Madrid (Spain) and Seattle Sounders (USA) – all teams that, like Wydad AC, have won their respective continental championships.

Under the captaincy of Yahya Jabrane, one of the star players in the recent World Cup in Qatar, the Moroccan club will first take the field on the 4th February against the Saudis of Al Hilal, in the second round of this extremely important world class competition.

Wydad AC is an excellent example of how Moroccan football has developed. In the last six years the team has played in three finals of the CAF Champions League and taken the title on two occasions. The club has a really impressive record in competitions: 22 Moroccan League titles, 9 Moroccan Cups, 1 Independence Cup, 3 CAF Champions League titles, 1 African Cup Winners Cup, 1 African Super Cup, 1 Afro-Asian Club Championship, 1 Arab Club Champions Cup and 1 Arab Super Cup.

Determination, teamwork, commitment and passion are behind the extraordinary results achieved by this Moroccan club. And of course, these same values are perfectly aligned with those of Macron, who have been technical partner to Wydad AC for five years and will be supporting the ‘White and Reds’ during their exciting run in the FIFA Club World Cup. The Macron Hero logo will be worn not only by the Moroccan Champions but by many of the fans who are sure to pack the terraces for the competition and demonstrate their love ("Wydad" means ‘love’ in Arabic) for the colours and badge of a team that is among the best in African football.
