A homage to the town on the new Home shirts of Reading FC
The close ties between Reading FC and Reading town are clearly expressed by the historic English club's new ‘Home’ shirt. The traditional design of the new shirt is complemented by graphics representing the Berkshire town’s most famous buildings.
This sense of belonging is accompanied by a clear message of sustainability, a value shared by Macron, technical partner to the ‘Royals’ since 2019. The new kit is made from Eco Fabric, a material obtained entirely from recycled plastic. Respect for the environment is further confirmed by an inside neck label that recalls the graphics of the club’s ‘Home’ shirt for last season, which was designed specifically to raise awareness about the threat of global warming.
The latest ‘Home’ shirt features the classic pattern of horizontal blue and white stripes and comes with a white knitted polo neck embellished with a thin blue line. The central white stripe and those at the bottom of the shirt, front and back, contain dye-sub graphic motifs depicting various views of the town’s skyline and featuring some of Reading’s best known buildings. Some of the same graphics can also be found on the sleeves. The inside label is customised with the colours of the club, the Reading FC logo, that of Macron, and the words, ‘Designed in Bologna’, certifying that the garment is conceived, designed and produced at Macron's headquarters in the Emilian capital. Also featured on the neck label are the multi-colour stripes that appeared on the sleeves of the Royals’ ‘Home’ shirt last season. These are the ‘warming stripes’ devised by climate scientist Ed Hawkins in collaboration with Reading university to illustrate the rise in temperature the town has experienced in recent years as a result of global warming.
The Macron Hero appears in blue on the right of the chest. The Reading FC badge can be seen on the left. The crown and lion of the club’s badge are reproduced at the back of the neck. The shorts are white with bands of blue at the sides. The socks are blue with a horizontal white stripe around the middle and a white band at the top containing blue and red stripes. The Slim Fit shirts are made mainly from Eco Softlock with a panel of Eco Micromesh in the back and Eco Mesh inserts for reduced weight and perfect breathability.
Like all other Reading FC kits, the latest ‘Home’ colours are available from the section of the macron.com website dedicated to the club.
