Barry Town United: A close-knit community and a future of excellence

A MOVIMENTED HISTORY, RICH IN GLORY

Born in 1912 as Barry Town, and assuming its current guise as Barry Town United in 2013, the club played mostly in England before returning to Wales in the early 90s – a move which would spark the club’s most successful period of all, with immediate promotion to the top division and a unique quadruple of Welsh League, Welsh League Cup, FAW Trophy and Welsh Cup honours. A club with over 100 years of history, surviving 2 World Wars and a series of difficult periods, it has proved to be a resilient side over the years, driven by a common passion for the sport, shared by both players and fans.

A STRONG COMMUNITY KEEPS THE CLUB ALIVE

The early 2000s saw a series of managerial fall-backs which had the club on the brink of extinction. Yet, what characterised this period for the club was not the struggle, but rather the resilience of players and supporters who made it their own mission to keep the club alive. A series of fan-led initiatives such as the 2010 ‘Stand Up for Barry’ social media campaign led to a surge in support from a growing community of fans. In the years following this landmark period, Barry Town would go on to win 2 consecutive Welsh Leagues and expanding as a club with new female, youth, academy and pan-disability divisions. The pinnacle of this process is undoubtedly represented by the historic Europa League qualification, 3 years ago, just 5 years after almost going out of existence.

A CLEAR MISSION, VISION, AND FUTURE

It should come as no surprise then, that Barry’s vision and mission, to this day, is to remain the close-knit community they are and always have been. With a growing number of teams, the aim is to produce excellence both on and off the field, irrespective of ability, gender, or ethnicity. To pass on the baton of collective responsibility to the younger generations of Barry Town players, in the hope that they will eventually play for the senior teams and maintain the club legacy.

A SHIRT TO BE WORN WITH PRIDE

The blue and yellow Barry Town United jersey is an emblem to the club’s history, representing family, fun, and community – the 3 insurmountable values which accompany this club. It is a shirt to be worn with pride, designed by Italian technical partner Macron, and characterised by the company’s bespoke Italian design and attention to detail. Macron and Barry Town United have a mutual appreciation for the importance of community, the value that sport brings to communities, and that communities bring to sport. It is this very shared value that makes this partnership a prosperous one, and one which hopes to continue long into the future.
