Iconic Queensferry Crossing inspires 22/23 Edinburgh Rugby kit

Edinburgh Rugby today launched the club’s new home and alternate Macron kit for the 22/23 next season, in which the capital side will celebrate its 150th anniversary. The new home kit is inspired by, and pays homage to, the iconic Queensferry Crossing, which connects the Lothians to Fife in a nod to the club’s city and wider-regional fan base.

The bold alternate kit focuses on the club’s burnt orange colours, which take inspiration from the capital city’s volcanic origins. Both jerseys carry proudly the logo of Main Club Partner Scottish Building Society, who feature prominently on the chest of both shirts.

Edinburgh Rugby supporters can also look forward to a special edition 150th anniversary-inspired Macron kit which will be launched ahead of the festive intercity derbies, as both the capital club and rivals Glasgow Warriors pay tribute the 150th anniversary of the first-ever meeting between the two sides, which took place on 23 November 1872.

The new home shirt has a V-neck with burnt orange trim, a colour that is repeated on the sleeve cuffs. The front and back of the shirt feature dye-sub printed graphics to create geometric shapes to illustrate the ‘sails’ formed by the cables of the new Forth river crossing, the longest of its kind in the world. A sweat band inside the neck bears the words ‘EST 1872’, paying homage to the year in which the club first emerged as a representative side, with the Edinburgh Rugby badge on the left chest and the Macron Hero logo on the right. The home kit is completed by navy blue shorts with burnt orange inserts and navy blue socks with orange cuffs.

Burnt orange is the colour that distinguishes the team’s new alternate kit. The orange of the shirt is fused by three horizontal bands on the chest – one large section of navy blue between two narrow lines of white. Orange recalls the volcanic origin of Edinburgh and its famous Castle rock, with the iconic city landmark forming an integral part of the club’s badge. The shirt has a v-neck with navy blue trim, and the back-neck is customised like that of the home shirt – also featuring ‘EST 1872’ on the sweatband.

The alternate shorts are also in orange, with navy blue stripes at the sides, while the socks are predominantly white with a navy-blue cuff and bands of blue and orange. Both shirts feature in muscle fit and are produced in Armevo and Bodytex fabrics which, as well as being lightweight and breathable, are ultra hard-wearing and extremely comfortable to play in.
