The waves of the Ligurian Sea for the 'Lady of the Sea': U.C. Sampdoria's 2023-24 shirts unveiled

The pre-season training camp began a few days ago, and the objectives for next season are clear. Now it is time to unveil the new shirts that U.C. Sampdoria will wear for the 2023/24 season. Shirts that can only respect the tradition of ‘the most beautiful shirt in the world’ and combine innovative graphic choices with a very precise leitmotif to the lines and colours that are the club’s history.

A team and the territory it belongs to and represents. A team and its sea. Sampdoria, ‘Lady of the Sea’. The reference is to a quote by Francesco Petrarca in 1358 concerning his trip to Genoa: “You will see a royal city, leaning against an alpine hill, ‘superb’ for men and for walls, whose appearance alone indicates it as the Lady of the Sea”.

Alongside these references, these shirts also represent the club’s and its technical partner’s commitment to sustainability and respect for the environment—all the match kits are made in Eco Fabric, a polyester fabric obtained from 100% recycled plastic.

The new Sampdoria  23-24 ‘Home’, the club’s iconic shirt, is the traditional royal blue ‘blucerchiata’ shirt, with the four central horizontal bands, white, red, black and white again, with the shield of St. George in the centre. The crew neck and sleeve edges have blucerchiati details, and the backneck is customised with the club’s colours, the words ‘Signora del Mare’ (Lady of the Sea), the Macron logo and the words ‘Designed in Bologna’, certifying that each garment is conceived, designed and developed in the Italian brand’s headquarters. The graphic pattern that characterises the new 23-24 Home kit is in the embossed graphic that recreates the waves of the sea, present all over at the top, front and back, and on the sleeves. On the outside back collar, the profile of the ‘Baciccia’ is printed in white. The ‘Baciccia’ is a typical Genoese bearded fisherman with a characteristic cap and pipe, and it also appears on the club’s badge. On the right chest is the Macron Hero, and on the left is the U.C. Sampdoria badge, both in silicon print. The shorts are white with a blucerchiato thigh border. The white socks have two blucerchiato bands in the centre. The shirt is made from Eco-Poly Stretch fabric.

The ‘Away’ shirt is white with a polo collar and knitted sleeve edging. The central part, where there are the four white, red, black and again white bands, with the shield of St. George in the centre, is characterised by a graphic wave pattern in sublimation print. The stylistic innovation of the second shirt is in the embossed pattern all over, with the repeated symbols of the anchor and the Baciccia, confirming the relationship with the sea and creating a style with strong references to the fashion world. The Baciccia is also present here, in blue, on the back neck. On the chest, in royal blue, the Macron Hero and the club’s crest. The shorts and socks are royal blue with blucerchiati details. The fabric used for the shirt is Eco-Softlock.

The ‘Third’ version is black with a polo collar and knitted sleeve edging. On the right side, starting from the shoulder and running the entire length of the shirt, there is a blucerchiata band, and in the centre of the shirt, the shield of St. George stands out. On the sleeves is the embossed graphic with anchors and Baciccia, also present in the lunette under the back neck, inside which is printed in amber the profile of the fisherman symbol of the club. Also in amber is the Macron Hero on the chest next to a U.C. Sampdoria badge that echoes that used in the mid-1960s. Black shorts and socks complete the kit. The third shirt uses Eco-Sirena Light as the main fabric.

The new shirts, along with other apparel and accessories from the merchandising line created by Macron for U.C. Sampdoria, are available at Samp City, at the Macron Sports Hub in Genoa, on the club’s website and in the dedicated Blucerchiati space on macron.com.
