COLOUR AND HISTORY AT THE HEART OF BLACKBURN ROVERS’ ANNIVERSARY EDITION THIRD KIT
On 25 May 1992, at Wembley Stadium, Blackburn Rovers beat Leicester City 1-0 in the play-off final to gain promotion to the Premier League, a win that saw the Rovers return to the top tier of English football for the first time in 26 years. Now, Macron – the Hero company, and Rovers’ technical sponsor – has drawn inspiration from the jersey worn by Blackburn in that historic final to create the club’s brand-new Anniversary Edition Third jersey for the 2021/22 season. Nearly 30 years down the line, the new kit is a tribute to the Rovers side that took the club back to the division that it had helped found way back in 1888.
The new Third jersey has a three-button polo collar with blue trim, while the sleeves also feature knitted trim in blue. The main colour of the jersey is yellow, just like the ones worn by Rovers captain Kevin Moran and the rest of the side as they beat Leicester City thanks to a penalty from Mike Newell. The back of the neck is personalised with a blue label featuring the club's logo in the centre, as well as a sweatband-style tape with the words Anniversary Edition. A silicone printed Macron Hero logo in blue adorns the right breast, with the Blackburn Rovers crest sitting on the left, over the heart. On the rear of the jerseys, just underneath the collar, is the club’s motto in a gothic font: Arte et Labore.
The front and back of the jerseys feature an embossed, tone-on-tone sublimation print of a series of geometric shapes, most notably diamonds. These slim-fit jerseys ensure optimum breathability through the use of Softlock material and the incorporation of inserts in micromesh.
The Blackburn Rovers Anniversary Edition Third kit is another illustration of Macron’s ability to create high-quality, high-tenacity teamwear whose impeccable attention to detail enables it to bring the emotions of the past back to life, channelling those play-off heroes to create jerseys worthy of Rovers’ current crop.
