Club traditions, pastoral crosiers and a touch of street art on the new shirts of FC Basel 1893

FC Basel 1893, one of the top clubs in Swiss and European football, has presented the new ‘Home’ and ‘Away’ shirts the “Rotblau” will wear this coming season. The shirt maintains a traditional layout with the two classic colours of red and blue but is rendered unique and exclusive by graphic and stylistic details. The ‘Away’ shirt features street-art style graphics. As with last season’s shirts, the new garment is made from Eco Fabric, a polyester material 100% obtained entirely from recycled plastic, confirming the green philosophy and commitment to sustainability and the environment that the club shares with Macron.

The ‘23-24 Home’ shirt has a vintage style white polo neck with two thin blue and red stripes. The front and back are both divided into two halves: one red and one blue, arranged in alternation.  The shoulders and sleeves are black, but the sleeves have two thin red and blue stripes on the rib knit cuffs. The geometric-style motif that characterises the Swiss club’s new ‘Home’ shirt is embossed on the sleeves: the ‘Baslerstab’ or ‘Crook of Basel’ taken from the city’s coat of arms is printed tone on tone. The ‘crook’ is an ancient heraldic motif that depicts a bishop’s crozier and has been used since the 13th century to denote the Prince-Bishopric of Basel. The inside neck label is customised in the colours of the club and features a background that repeats the graphics of the sleeves, the logo of FC Basel 1893, that of Macron and the words ‘Designed in Bologna’ certifying that the garment is conceived, designed and produced at Macron’s Bologna Headquarters. The Macron Hero and badge of FC Basel 1893 appear in gold on the chest.

Also printed in gold at the back of the neck is the club’s date of formation: ‘1893’. The bottom hem tape is customised with the words AI STADT, AI CLUB, AI LIEBI repeated with two stars between each phrase, indicating the club’s 20 Swiss Championship wins. The shorts are black with a red band on the left and a blue one on the right. The socks, also in black, have two blue and red stripes around the top.

The new ‘Away’ shirt has a crew neck and sleeve cuffs in black with red and blue details. The body of the shirt is light grey and features, front and back, embossed tone on tone graphics that form the word ‘Basel’ in a font reminiscent of the graffiti seen in the city, which is the artistic and cultural capital of Switzerland. The inside label is customised with the same graphics as the outside of the shirt, the motifs of the FC Basel 1893 logo, the Macron logo and the words ‘Designed in Bologna’. The Macron Hero appears in black on the chest along with a version of the FC Basel 1893 logo consisting only of the letters ‘FCB’. The date ‘1893’, the year the club was formed, is printed in light grey in the back yoke on a black background with red and blue details. The shorts are in grey with black side stripes and leg bottoms. The socks are in grey with a black band at the top containing blue and red horizontal stripes.

The Slim Fit shirts are made mainly from Eco Softlock with an Eco Micromesh back panel and Eco Mesh inserts for lightness and excellent breathability. Like all the garments made for FC Basel 1893 by Macron, the new ‘Home’ and ‘Away’ shirts can be purchased from the section of the macron.com website dedicated to the club.
