Macron is the new technical sponsor of West Bromwich Albion
Another piece of English football history joins the Macron family. Starting next season the Macron Hero will feature on the shirts of West Bromwich Albion, a club from the English West Midlands town of the same name. The technical partnership includes not only match kits, but also a collection of fully customised garments for the pitch, training, representation and free time, as well as a merchandising line dedicated to the fans of The Baggies.
The history of one of the most iconic clubs in British football began in 1878 when a group of workers from George Salter Spring Works founded West Bromwich Strollers (a name chosen because young footballers had to wander to nearby Wednesbury to get their first ball). Two years later the club assumed its current name where Albion in reference to the West Bromwich district where some of the players lived or worked. The WBA won its first and so far only English league title in 1920, but it was the FA Cup in which the name of West Bromwich Albion featured five times in the roll of honour. Also in the club's trophy cabinet are an English League Cup and two FA Community Shields.
Many footballers have worn the blue and white WBA jersey, some of whom have written indelible pages in the history of the English club, such as Jeff ‘the King’ Astle, author of unforgettable goals such as the one scored in the first extra time of the 1968 FA Cup final. For him a West Bromwich bridge ‘changed its name’ and in 2003 a gate in the stadium was named Astle Gate. Another footballer who left his mark on the Baggies is surely Captain Marvel Bryan Robson who scored forty goals in seven years in that shirt.
“The relationship between Macron and English football is a very special one and we are thrilled to be able to count among our partners a club that represents the history of the sport like West Bromwich Albion. - said Gianluca Pavanello, CEO of Macron – 146 years of history are an impressive ‘archive’ of emotions worthy of being told and our strength and ability is precisely that of making these emotions wearable and transmit to those on the pitch and those in the stands the identity and sense of belonging to the club, combining style and design with the quality and technicality of innovative, high-performance and sustainable fabrics”.
“We are delighted to be in partnership with Macron, who have shown us incredible due care and attention since we began working with them 12 months ago,” said Albion Managing Director, Mark Miles. “During this period, they have created bespoke kits we’re confident our players and supporters will enjoy wearing. Marcon are an ever-evolving, innovative sports brand who we look forward to working with over the coming years.”
