Macron is the new technical partner of Uruguay’s Rugby Union

Macron is building ever closer links to top-flight international rugby, and today, those links have become even stronger thanks to an agreement reached with one of South America’s leading rugby federations. Unión de Rugby del Uruguay, rugby’s governing body in Uruguay, has officially joined the Macron family. This new agreement covers the supply of match kits and a complete line of teamwear for the men’s first XV and for the Sevens and women’s sides. The prestigious partnership further reinforces Macron’s international leadership in the teamwear market and confirms the brand’s standing as the top name in the world of rugby for quality, technology, style and customisation, with all garments being specially designed for the sport.

Nicknamed “Los Teros” after the southern lapwing, the national bird of Uruguay, known for its courage and astuteness, the Uruguayan national rugby team has gained international acclaim in recent years as a rising force capable of challenging sides with far higher rankings.

Established in 1950, Union de Rugby del Uruguay qualified for the Rugby World Cup for the first time in 1999, when it scored its first historic victory over Spain. The first try-scorer on that occasion was Diego Ormaechea who, at 40 years and 13 days, remains the oldest player to have scored a try in the history of the competition. “Los Teros” have obtained other amazing results since then: in 2004 they won the Intercontinental Cup and, four years later, the World Rugby U20 Trophy. Another unforgettable occasion for Uruguayan rugby fans came in 2019 when their side beat Fiji by 30 to 27 in the Rugby World Cup. Yet another significant achievement in recent times was the country’s first qualification for the Olympics, thanks to the success of the Teros Seven against Chile. In 2023, the side obtained their fourth and latest victory in the Rugby World Cup against Namibia in Lyon.

The Macron Hero will appear on the shirts of Uruguayan national teams starting this July, when Los Teros will face France, Argentina and Scotland, in that order.

Union de Rugby del Uruguay is a rising star in the world of international rugby and we are delighted to be able to continue their journey with them,” declares Gianluca Pavanello, CEO of Macron. “We look forward to representing their success story on sportswear collections and match kits that convey the identity of Los Teros along with the team’s symbols, history and ties to the nation. The Uruguayan Rugby Union will be receiving high-performance, advanced teamwear with refined and exclusive designs.”

I am thrilled to announce this new agreement between the Uruguay Rugby Union and Macron which means a lot for us.”, says Fabio Magno, URU’s President. “In terms of Rugby clothing, is a remarkable brand, with a long history and tradition in Rugby which will stand up our teams. The National Team jersey is the main asset for our national teams and, being represented by Macron is such a great honour. Welcome!
