Black flames against an ivory background on Macron’s new Away kit for FC Basel

FC Basel’s new Away kit, presented to the club’s supporters along with the new team, is characterised by a strikingly innovative and original design. The Away kit is the first to be presented of the Macron-designed kits that the Rotblau will wear in the 2024/25 season and the shirt stands out for its striking graphics inspired by the culture and traditions of the city of Basel. Like all the kits produced by Macron for its partner clubs, this one too is made entirely from Eco Fabric, a polyester material 100% derived from recycled post-consumer plastic.

FC Basel’s Away shirt for 2024/25 is predominantly ivory in colour, with black-trimmed neck and sleeves. The new shirt is characterised by wavy black shapes that descend from above and rise from beneath towards the central section. This motif references the ancient standards of the city on which black ‘flames’ on a white background converge towards a Baslerstab (bishop’s crosier) in the centre. Its historic origin has made this motif extremely widespread in the culture and traditions of Basel. It appears, for example, as black ‘tongues’ on the drums used during city festivals, including the famous Basel carnival. The flame motif is also associated with the basilisk, the mythical animal that has become a symbol of the city and that appears on so many of its buildings and monuments.

The custom inside neck label has a black background and the words ‘FC BASEL 1893’ below the image of a basilisk and a ball. (The ball also appears on the club’s badge.) Also present are the Macron logo and the words ‘Designed in Bologna’, certifying that the garment is conceived, designed and developed at the Macron Campus. On the chest, both printed in black silicone, are the Macron Hero and a version of the FC Basel 1893 badge formed only by the letters ‘FCB’ and two stars representing the 20 Swiss Championships that the club has won. A tape runs around the inside of the bottom hem, repeating the phrase ‘BRENNE FÜR DEN FCB’ (Burning for FCB). The football seen on the club’s badge is embroidered in black behind the neck.

The shorts are in the same colour as the shirt, with the graphic motif of the shirt repeated in black on the sides. The socks are ivory in colour too with a broad black band at the top, the letters ‘FCB’ and the Macron Hero at the front and, at the back, the date the club was formed – 1893. The Slim Fit shirt is made mainly from Eco Light Serena with an Eco Micromesh panel in the back for improved lightness and breathability.

The new Away kit, along with all the other garments developed by Macron for FC Basel 1893, can be purchased from the section of the macron.com website dedicated to the Swiss club.
